Dear R.Hunter,

Election Day is less than one year away. The very values that forged America's middle class are at stake.

My father and uncles fought to build a society that takes care of the least among us. Yet that social safety net is in imminent danger. Social Security, Medicare, health care reform – radicalized Republicans are bent on unraveling that safety net strand by strand and tossing it to the winds for the whims of those at the very top.

We cannot allow it. We must not allow it.

Here's how to stop them: The DSCC needs $150,000 by Friday for its Year Out Project, not just to win an election, but to prevent Republicans from taking control and fundamentally changing the nature of this nation. If my father were here, he'd tell you it's going to be a dogfight. We need you in it. Our majority is too small – and the risks too extreme – to leave anyone on the sidelines.

We see Americans who are poor and ill, and we work to provide them decent health care, including mental health care. It's a civil right. Republicans see "Obamacare" and vow to repeal it, leaving desperate people at the mercy of insurance companies.

We see women who want to plan for pregnancies and healthy futures, and we work to provide them contraception and cancer screenings. Republicans slash family planning funding, citing "family values."

We see seniors who deserve to live long, healthy lives, and we work to provide them peace of mind through Social Security and Medicare. Republicans see programs that need to be privatized in order to fund bigger tax cuts for billionaires and huge corporations.

Their values simply aren't our values. And if they win in 2012, the nation they create won't be a nation any of us recognize.

That's why we can't wait to fight back. If Republicans get momentum, we will be struggling to tread water when we should be taking this fight nationwide. We have the candidates. We have the arguments. We have the heart, in abundance. But we need the resources, or none of that will matter.
