On Wednesday Attorney General John Kroger of Oregon announced he will not be seeking reelection in 2012. General Kroger, a former Assistant US Attorney and law professor, is currently in his first term after winning with an overwhelming 72% of the vote in 2008. He was considered a strong contender for reelection after securing both the Democratic and Republican nomination in 2008. General Kroger announced he has been recently diagnosed with a serious, but not life-threatening, medical condition and, after consulting with his doctor, has decided to forgo the campaign trail for 2012. Currently no other candidates have been speculated about in Oregon but DAGA will be seeking to engage in candidate recruitment across the state. DAGA wishes General Kroger good health as he finishes out his term. In the News [3]Kroger won't run for re-election; cites medical condition _The Statesman Journal _– October 18, 2011 Oregon Attorney General John Kroger announced today that he won’t run for reelection, citing a significant but not life-threatening medical condition. Kroger, a Democrat first elected in 2008, said: “I was recently diagnosed and am under the care of a physician at OHSU (Oregon Health & Science University) for a significant but not life-threatening medical condition. It will not interfere with my legal work or prevent me from completing my term, but I will need to reduce my hours, travel less and be careful about my health.
