Join us and participate in Fannie Mae's Help the Homeless Walkathon on Saturday,
November 19th at 9am on the National Mall. This is your chance to make a difference,
raise awareness, support Martha's Table and walk with your friend and family on

Care Packages for the Holidays

Youth Program
The average graduation rate for DCPS seniors is 50%. That is 25% below the national
average. Did you know that Martha's Table seniors graduation rate is 100% and has
been for 14 years? Not only that - the majority of our students attend college
or university. Martha's Table supports those students through college by sending
them care packages, Skyping, connecting with them on twitter and setting them up
with mentors. You can help us by donating items for care packages. Follow the

There you will find all the items students need to succeed in college. Pictured
above is Mary, items donated for care packages will go to students like her. She
originally came to the Martha's Table teen program through her participation in
a service learning class at Benjamin Bannekar High School, facilitated by Martha's
Table Program Director Tim Jones. She made a great impression on Tim and was invited
to participate in daily programming at Martha's Table. While maintaining a 3.0 GPA
at Bannekar, Mary kept an after school job and volunteered at Howard University
Hospital to gain experience in her future career field of nursing. Now in her sophomore
year at Bowie State University, she is a full time student commuting daily from
her home in DC to Bowie. In addition, she works part-time at a local restaurant
to assist her mother in paying for her tuition. Mary ultimately aims to become
a registered Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit Nurse.

Volunteer of the Month

Abby McEwen

Abby started volunteering as a McKenna's Wagon helper about a year ago. Recently,
she wanted to make more of a commitment and was trained as a McKenna's Wagon driver.
We were excited when she made this leap as we are always in need of reliable and
available drivers. Abby now drives 2 nights a month and fills in whenever she can.

can donate online to help raise millions for local nonprofits as part of the first
annual Give to the Max Day of Greater Washington.

Prizes and awards will be given to nonprofits in many different categories so you
never know what great things will come for your favorite charities!
