Dear Hunter,

The war in Iraq will finally be coming to a close. After some worries that President Obama would extend our troop presence in Iraq, today he announced that the United States will abide by our Status of Forces Agreement, which calls for all troops to be out by the end of the year. The importance of this day is not lost on those of us who had friends injured or killed in this war. America has sacrificed so much, and our troops and their families have sacrificed even more.

VoteVets.org [ http://www.votevets.org ] was founded in 2006, to refocus our military on fighting real threats to America's security. This war was misguided from the start – based on false and faulty intelligence, a distraction from the war against the terrorists who attacked us on September 11, 2001, and a drain on our military

After more than five years, and because you have been there with us, we will soon be able to say the War in Iraq is over. And we can say it is, in part, because of the work VoteVets has done. So, it is with deep gratitude that I thank you for all you have done.

This was not an easy operation to wrap-up, but President Obama has done so – first by pulling back our troops and redeploying a large number of them, and now by bringing all of our troops home. Iraq's future is now in the hands of the Iraqi people, as it should be. We have done all possibly can for them. Now, it is up to them to decide their future.
