Dear R.Hunter,

I swear, if Republicans loved Big Oil any more, they'd name their kids ConocoPhillips and ExxonMobil.

Big Oil just posted multibillion-dollar profits – AGAIN – and what are Republicans doing? Filibustering a jobs bill. Refusing to make billionaires pay their fair share. Basically anything they can do for the benefit of their wealthy buddies in the top 1% -- and at the expense of the middle class.

That's why I'm holding out a donations bucket. Midnight's the deadline, folks. The DSCC's got to raise $20,000 by then to save the Senate and keep these guys from taking total control of Congress, and I'm fired up.

If we don't hit this goal, Republicans will gain the momentum and charge ahead of us. And in politics, nothing's worse than watching the south end of a north-bound Republican fade into the distance.

You know the stakes. They gain four seats, and they're back in power. If you think things are bad now, pull on your imagination caps and consider the alternative. Big Oil and billionaires calling ALL the shots. John Boehner in charge of your health care. Paul Ryan "reworking" Medicare and Social Security for you. And Mitch McConnell wielding the Senate gavel with his own special brand of nasty.

The election's a year off. It seems too early to worry about it, right? WRONG. You think Republicans are sitting around waiting? Heck no. They're scheming with Karl Rove and Company to come up with creative new ways to pound us at the ballot box. If we don't fight back hard – starting NOW – then we're going to wake up with one heck of a hangover on Nov. 7, 2012.
