Genesis was the vehicle that launched the incredible solo careers of both Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel. Gabriel’s 1986 album “So,” produced by Daniel Lanios proved as groundbreaking as it was popular (it is one of Rolling Stone Magazine’s top 500 records of all time.) Gabriel and Lanois created a pop masterpiece layered with elements of world music, American soul and Genesis-style art rock. The album yielded major hits, “In Your Eyes,” “Red Rain,” and the incomparable “Sledgehammer” with its pioneering MTV video in which Gabriel’s face morphs to the infectious beat. This 1987 live performance of “Sledgehammer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9oYSawDEkA) ” was filmed in a hillside open-air theatre overlooking Athens, Greece at the conclusion of the “So” tour. It’s sublime. ** Feedback ------------------------------------------------------------ I always welcome and benefit from your feedback.
