TRACK & FIELD, BASEBALL BLACK STUDENT UNION ANNUAL GO-GO PARENT PROGRAM: LEGAL IMPLICATIONS OF TEEN SUBSTANCE ABUSE CELEBRATION FOR SALLY Other GRANDPARENTS & FRIENDS NEWSLETTER COUNSELOR'S CORNER BFM BLACK LIVES MATTER COUNSELOR'S CORNER News Around the School Principal's Letter MESSAGE FROM MAMADOU Dear Friends, Our students continue to amaze and impress me with their compassion, understanding, and resilience, even through challenging times. We have come together as a community this week to affirm our core values and deep care for one another. Wednesday afternoon’s Collection, led by members of the South Asian Student Association, brought the community together to celebrate and learn more about South Asian cultures and traditions. Through dance, music, and thoughtful presentations, Upper School students learned about the various cultures of South Asia. The program ended with an invitation for members of the community to join club members on the stage for a dance lesson. It was a festive and joyous occasion! Recently, one of our own Upper School students was awarded the First Place Grand Prize Award at the DC STEM Fair. Our student presented on her independent research project, “The Effect of Targeted Inhibitors on Melanoma Tumor Immunity,” which was based on work she did at an internship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Our student will go on to represent DC and Sidwell Friends at the Intel ISEF International Competition next month in Phoenix, Arizona. I want to encourage all of you to attend the April 5 parent program featuring Maura Lynch, who will present on the legal implications of teen substance abuse. Ms. Lynch is a practicing attorney with expert knowledge in this field. We hope you will make it a priority to attend this important program. The Sidwell Friends Chorus will perform with the Apollo Orchestra on Sunday, April 10, at 3:00 p.m., in the Robert L Smith Meeting Room. Featured artists include our own Arts Department Head and Art Center Director, John Touchton; graduated parent Virginia Lum; and four of Washington International Opera’s Domingo Cafritz Young Artists---Ariana Wehr, Aleksandra Romano, Rexford Tester, and Timothy Bruno.
