Closer to home, Ambassador Mitchell was a Program Officer at NDI during the 1990s. He visited Burma for the first time with NDI President Ken Wollack and met with Aung San Suu Kyi. He later returned to Burma to produce a film about Aung San Suu Kyi, which was shown at NDI's 1996 Democracy Award event.
