On February 22nd, we launched our New Economy working group. (https://t.e2ma.net/click/jkgaid/r2f0ql/z0zkhq) Department of Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta gave the keynote address where he discussed how the government needs to adapt to today's entrepreneurial economy. Kyle Dropp, Co-founder and Chief Research Officer of Morning Consult, gave a polling presentation on the attitudes of new economy participants. Our co-chairs, Philip Minardi of Expedia and Vikrum Aiyer of Postmates, previewed C_TEC’s 2018 New Economy policy agenda. Moving forward, we're excited to work with Secretary Acosta and our member companies to advance policies which will benefit workers and consumers in the new economy. THE DOWNLOAD On February 1st, Jordan Crenshaw penned an op-ed in Above the Fold on net neutrality, titled Past Policies and State Patchworks Won't Provide Long-Term Net Neutrality (https://t.e2ma.net/click/jkgaid/r2f0ql/ft0khq). On February 5th, C_TEC held this year's first Telecom Committee working group conference call. The call covered the Chamber's net neutrality CRA efforts and state activity, wireless issues surrounding 5G, television white spaces, the FCC's latest high-band spectrum proceeding, and Broadband Siting issues including Thune-Schatz. The call also provided an update on Senator Cortez Masto's Moving FIRST Act (S.1809) and the AV START privacy amendment. On February 13th, C_TEC held this year's first UAS working group call. Topics for the meeting included: starting a cross industry UAS economic impact study, updates on the current status of the ARC, information sharing about the Administration’s UAS Integration Pilot Program, and legislative updates. On February 20th, Jordan Crenshaw attended Jacksonville Chamber's event "How Automation Moves Cities", featuring a keynote from Eric McCarthy, Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Proterra Inc. Jordan, along with industry experts, discussed the role of autonomous vehicles in Jacksonville's future (https://t.e2ma.net/click/jkgaid/r2f0ql/vl1khq). On February 21st, C_TEC held an Autonomous Vehicles working group conference call. Trevor Dean, Legislative Assistant to Senator Cortez Masto (D-NV) and John McDonald, Legislative Assistant to Senator Richard Burr (R-NC), provided an overview and update on smart cities legislation including the Moving FIRST Act. The call also addressed updates on the AV START Act, as well as upcoming Department of Transportation AV comments. On February 21st, Tim Day hosted a panel on The Capabilities of Artificial Intelligence with Jules Polonetsky, CEO of the Future Privacy Forum, Tim Sheehy, VP for Technology Policy at IBM, and Hilary Cain, Director for Technology and Innovation Policy at Toyota. #WHATSNEXT From March 8th to March 9th, C_TEC will host its Advisory Board meeting at SXSW in Austin.
