*Please Join Us at an Invitation-Only Briefing* *Ukraine Disinformation Research* Mary O'Hagan, NDI-Ukraine Senior Director 10:00 - 11:30 am, Wednesday, March 14 8th Floor, NDI Please join us for an invitation-only briefing to hear about an innovative method NDI is developing to identify groups in a society most susceptible to disinformation and assess the approaches that build their resistance. We are piloting this research in Ukraine and the NDI team in Kyiv has been able to isolate a set of characteristics that are predictors of vulnerability. The team has been able to measure the influence of different messengers, counter-messengers, validators, and denials, or different types of audiences. The study confirms that, with nuanced strategies tailored to specific audiences, belief in false narratives can be suppressed. It also shows, importantly, that some messaging and counter-messaging backfires, pointing to the need for rigorous evidence-based approaches. Although these findings are preliminary, they point to some potentially effective mitigation strategies. Please reply to me and pthacker@ndi.org (copied on this email) if you can join us. We hope to see you there. *James van der Klok* National Democratic Institute for International Affairs 455 Massachusetts Ave, NW, 8th Floor Washington DC 20001 Office: 202.728.5516 */ *Mobile: 202.256.2079 james@ndi.org <jvanderklok@ndi.org> * *@NDI <https://twitter.com/ndi
