Jennifer is in the hospital awaiting eventual discharge today. She is in good spirits, yet has some discomfort, as expected. The doctors continue to say she's making good progress and as you would expect, she's walking the halls and anxious to go home. We received the pathology report today and unfortunately didn't get the exact news we were hoping for. The margins were not clear where the breast tissue meets the muscle, so they are recommending radiation treatment beginning in 4-6 weeks. The radiation will be a daily occurrence for 2-6 weeks. The purpose is preventative - they believe that there is the potential for a few cancer cells in this margin area, but they are not certain and this treatment will address that possibility. Her tissue needs to heal before that can be done, and the reconstruction expander needs to take place first. So this will be a slightly longer road to recovery than we hoped, but we'll take one day at a time and meet with the radiation oncologist in the next week or two to determine the exact treatment. The good news is that Jennifer will not need chemo under any circumstance, and the side effects of the radiation include tenderness of the skin but nothing more severe. Please don't be alarmed - we're approaching this news with the same optimism we have to date, and we know she'll be fully cured soon.

This may be more information than many of you want, and if so, I do apologize - I'm not sure how much to put in these updates since I've never done them before and hope you understand. I probably won't send another one for a week or so. In the meantime, I want to thank you for your positive thoughts. Jennifer is certainly feeling loved, and it is greatly appreciated and helping her recover. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.
