Poll: At least half of Delaware's voters would support same-sex

At least half of Delaware’s voters would support legislation granting
marriage rights to same-sex couples and two-thirds say such a law would
have no real impact on them personally, according to a poll done for
Equality Delaware, the advocacy group that worked to pass the state’s civil
unions bill two years ago.

A bill proposing same-sex marriage is expected to be introduced in the
Delaware General Assembly this spring.

The statewide poll, conducted by Global Strategy Group, a public affairs
and research firm, was done from Feb. 12-14 and included 603 phone
interviews with registered Delaware voters at least 18 years old. The
margin of error for the poll was 4 percent.

More than 85 percent said they were over the age of 30, and 68 percent said
they were married. Thirty-seven percent said they were Democrats, 37
percent independent and 26 percent Republicans.

Fifty-four percent said they would favor legislation granting equal
marriage rights, 37 percent said they would oppose and 8 percent didn’t
know or declined to answer the question.
