It is not often that we come to you with such stories, but this one is quite special.

Shayna is a dog adopted from HT over a year ago...she came to us having been injured
by a car. HT paid for her medical treatment and she was on her way to healing when
she found an amazing adopter!

However, Shayna's healing has not ended...she has developed severe complications
to her leg and her adopter has spent thousands of dollars chasing down every possible
opportunity for her...but now it seems certain she must have an amputation and be
fitted with a prosthetic leg.. a special kind of leg beyond the normal kind.

After spending nearly $5,000 on Shayna, her owners desperately need help to raise
money for this next step, which will save her life...literally.

Belle

She is a sweet and loving spaniel mix who was recently turned into a high kill shelter
morbidly obese weighing in at 123 pounds on a frame that should be approximately
50 pounds. Belle lost her home when her mom went surfing on Facebook and found
her high school boyfriend. She left home and Belle's dad turned in all 4 of his
senior dogs to the shelter. Belle is the heaviest and needs an internal doctor
and a nutritionist to get her on the right weight lost track. Won't you help Belle

Dominic

Dominic is a guy who loves everyone. He gets along well with both dogs and people.
Sadly, he has tested positive for heartworm and needs to first be rescued from
the shelterfrom where he is living. Dominic needs help with his medical costs in

Livia

Livia is a gorgeous blue American Staffordshire terrier who was rescued from a life
as a baby factory and has blossomed into a sweet, playful, happy family pet who
LOVES dog toys and beds now that she has been introduced to them. But it was not
a short or easy road. She was kept alive at the shelter way past her expiration
date while we worked hard to find a place for her to go. Then she needed major
surgery. Livia had massive mammory lumps and surgery cost more than $750! Help us

Many Sick Kitties

HT recently took in more than 15 purebred Siamese cats and kittens that a hoarder
had dumped at a shelter. Upon arriving it was clear that all were quite sick, had
not been treated well and needed medical attention asap. All got to the vet where
it seemed certain they were suffering from Panluek - a deadly cat virus. But our
wonderful vets worked with our wonderful fosters and all were given top-notch care.
Sadly though, all but two died or were euthanized...as Panluek is almost impossible
to recover from. The expenses to treat these kittes ran over $1,000....please help
us cover this so we do not have to turn away other kitties in need. Donate to HT

Beckham

He was recently diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a disease characterized
by a thickening of the heart muscle. Beckham is now stable on meds, ready for adoption
and will be tested again in the future but he's got a bright prognosis!!

Gypsy

Gypsy is a sweet, young, dilute tortie kitty who was found lying by the side of
the road under a mailbox. After being taken to the shelter, it was discovered she
had a broken hip, so Gypsy went to the vet to have her hip repaired. Gypsy is still
at the shelter being treated for some new medical issues, with our support. We are
hoping she will come to us soon.

Yogi

Yogi is a sweet young cat who suffered from chronic ear infections which finally
resulted in a seizure. An MRI confirmed that Yogi had ear polyps that needed to
be surgically removed. An attempt was made to remove them but the polyps are deep
within the bulla of the ear. Yogi had his surgery and is doing wonderfully - ready
for adoption!!!!

Rocket

Rocket is a lovable 2-3 years old, 12 lbs Shih Tzu. Rocket came into a Baltimore
shelter with a collar embedded in his neck. Someone put the collar on him when
he was a puppy and did not change it as he grew. Surgery was performed to remove
the collar. Rocket was put on strong meds and recovered quickly, avoiding surgery
for urinary issues. Rocket was adopted three weeks ago, his fur has grown out, he
has a fabulous wardrobe and might be the most handsome man in the DC area. YAY Rocket!

Opie

Opie is a friendly, sweet Beagle/Pointer mix who's about 4 years old. Recently,
he was nursed through a very mild case of Vestibular Syndrome (VS), a condition
in which the nerves connecting the inner ear to the cerebellum (which controls balance
and spatial orientation) are inflamed. Opie was seen by our vet and given a positive
prognosis...and guess what? He was adopted last week!!!

Laila

This poor Pug was dumped on the streets by some mean person. He came to a rural
shelter with a skin infection, an ear so inflamed he could not hear and vision that
allows him to only see 2 feet in front of him. Burt is in foster to adopt doing
wonderfully...cannot see well, but the meds for his skin have made him look like
a brand new pooch. And he's being adopted this week!!

Ami

This girl was found wandering the streets of WV and now faces euthanasia at the
shelter We are desperate to bring her to DC to doggy daycare boarding but need to
secure $150 in sponsorship to help pay for her boarding. Ami came to us and loved
doggy daycare. She was scooped up on one week by loving adopters. We get to see
her now every week in training classes.

Tashi

(pronounced Tah-shee) means 'lucky' in Tibetan. She's a sweet, little 5 years old
Lhasa Apso mix who was rescued from a local shelter. During her spay operation,
the surgeon found uterine lumps and fluid in her abdomen. Tashi is still undergoing
tests for lumps but has adopters lined up once her results from the final test is
in this week. Fingers crossed for sweet Tashi!

PUPPIES!

HT is taking in record numbers of puppies and we are thrilled. But we need to enroll
more fosters for these cuties. Will you consider fostering a puppy or 8? As a puppy
foster we will set you up with most/all supplies you need. We have taken in more
than 30 puppies in the last 30 days with your help and kind sponsorship. Please
do let us know if you would like to be a puppy foster - we are always looking!!
