___________________________________ Dear Hunter, After 10 years leading Save the Children’s U.S. Programs, I am excited to tell you that I am moving into a new role with the organization: Senior Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and Senior Advisor to the CEO. In this new role, my core responsibility will be to drive a cross-agency effort to motivate and mobilize Americans to make children at home and abroad a national priority. This includes our new campaign, Keeping America’s Children Safe, through which we are advocating for measures to reduce gun violence and increase access to mental health services, as well as to establish a National Commission on Children to address the myriad challenges our kids face today. We have made tremendous progress in the two months since the campaign launched—including garnering over 100,000 signatures on a petition calling on the President and Congress to create such a Commission—but much remains to be done. Kathy Spangler, our Vice President for U.S. Programs, will assume full responsibility for our domestic operations. Kathy joined Save the Children in October 2010 and her strong leadership has set us on a course to reach all 50 states by 2015. I hope you have a chance to meet her soon; in the meantime, if you would like to say hello, she can be reached at 202-640-6695 or kspangler@savechildren.org. I know she would be happy to hear from you. I am proud of all that we have accomplished for children in the U.S. over the last decade – we have grown by leaps and bounds, with new programs and new states, all of which helped us reach a record number of children in 2012: 160,000. While that number is impressive, I am even prouder of our results, which have improved year over year. Of course, none of this would have been possible without your friendship and support – to say “thank you” seems wholly insufficient, but please know how grateful I am. I will keep in touch and hope you will do the same. As always, if you have any thoughts or questions, please don’t hesitate to call or email. My contact information remains the same (202-640-6627 or mshriver@savechildren.org) and Betsy Zorio will continue to support me (202-640-6612 or bzorio@savechildren.org). Thanks, again, Hunter. I hope you are well.
