Hello -

Patty and I look forward to chatting with most of you on Feb 1, at the lake house. (Hunter, didn’t flag this for you, since we’ve already covered the material, but you should feel free to join if you’re in town.) Patty and I are putting the final touches on the presentation today and tomorrow.

Monday’s discussion will focus on the local programming the foundation will do, and is borne out of the strategic planning discussions that have been ongoing for the last 6 weeks. But there’s a national piece to what the foundation will do: we would like to start a real, honest dialogue about the prevention of child abuse. I don’t think we would have specific programs per se, but would use our bully pulpit and megaphone to really start a discussion.

In talking this idea over with Hunter and Patty, and also with Robert Hoopes, I think it would be well worth our time to have a sort of strategic messaging discussion, led by Robert (who does this sort of stuff for his non-profit clients all the time).

We did a thorough strategic planning process for our local programming, with an expert in non-profit planning. This national piece is much more about awareness and messaging, so it makes sense to essentially repeat the process with a different focus. Rather than identifying potential outcome goals and defining metrics for success (as we did for the local stuff), we should think very clearly about what we want to say nationally and to whom we should be saying it.

For this exercise, I think it’s important to have all of you together, along with me and Patty and an additional policy expert or two. I’ve check with Anthony Bernal your office, Dr. B, and he said the 28 (Sunday) and 29 (Monday) of February work for your schedule. Those dates also work for Robert.

If Hallie, Ashley, Hunter and Valerie, one of those dates works for you, let me know and I’ll begin to work through the plan and agenda with Hoopes.
