Hi Hunter...hope you are doing well. Just wanted to give you a quick overview of why I wanted to visit on Tuesday. Our team at the WFP-USA has done an outstanding job on gaining increased funding for key intl program accounts. They have been outstanding in this area...a true leader. I have a very strong concern, however, with the state of our operating budget. I have gone thru the numbers in detail and in sum it is of deep concern. Actual 2015 vs budgeted revenue was off 19.2 mil...and this includes 5 mil in actual emergency funds raised that we agreed a few years ago to keep out of
our projected budget. Meanwhile the operational expense side continues to rise...5.2 mil in 2015 to a proposed operational budget of over 7 mil in 2016...a nearly 2 mil increase. The staff is continuing to grow...approaching 30...despite these
poor fundraising nos. The net result is that grants to the WFP are falling substantially. If you take out emergency funding, dollars raised in 2015...about 18 mil....and compare to an operational budget of 5.2 mil... means 29 cents of every dollar raised is going to operations...not the WFP. And without substantial increases in revenues raised the proposed operational increases for 2016 will worsen this ratio.
Hunter I readily admit I look at this thru the lens of someone who had to lead our BD thru the awful exercise of greatly reducing staff and the budget due to issues with our previous CEO and economy that created havoc on fundraising. I do think we need to have serious discussion about this at the BD mtg without staff there...other than Rick. I have not raised this with Rick...and would be glad to do so but wanted to talk to you before doing so.
Hunter, thanks....hope you and the family have a great weekend. Randy
