Smiles Last week we looked at the softer side of Neil Young. Thanks for all the great mail and conversation. Let’s talk about the more rugged side of Young. It’s startlingly primal and euphoric. I’ve rarely seen audiences as mesmerized and consumed as I have in attending a show put on by Neil Young and his longtime band Crazy Horse. Beginning in 1969 and continuing to perform and record together to the present day, Billy Talbot on bass and Ralph Molina on drums have been Young’s two constant sidemen. Together they form perhaps the greatest garage rock band of all time. This clip [ http://bit.ly/1sRFtt2 ] of Young and Crazy Horse live in 1991 ignites with ragged sonic precision. I love how the audience smiles and is consumed by the band’s blistering take on their classic “Cinnamon Girl.” It’s one of my favorite guitar riffs…ever. I can just listen to it over and over again. Feedback I always welcome and benefit from your feedback. Please drop me a line at aschwartz@csis.org. Need help finding us?
