Shira Weisbach | Visit Guest Book

Shira Weisbach Oakland, CA, passed on May 17, 2010 after succumbing to complications with her treatment, including three bone marrow transplants, for Leukemia (CML) diagnosed in 2004. Born April 3, 1960 in Honolulu to Gerald and Clarice Weisbach, Shira married Peter Gertler in 1987 and was the proud mother of twins Simon and Ellie (18). Shira was raised and attended school in California and London, received a BA from UC Berkeley and an MBA from SF State University. Shira had a professional and personal passion for books, and a 15-year career in publishing until her illness forced a career change to a full-time mother and on-line scrabble extraordinaire. During her illness, Shira completed two 100-mile rides in Tucson, AZ and Lake Tahoe, CA with Team in Training (TNT). She was an inspiration to her family and friends, the greater TNT family, and many others worldwide. Shira is survived by her husband and children, father, brothers Shaun, Avi and Lev, and many in-laws and cousins. Shira fought a long, hard and brave battle and will be lovingly remembered. Graveside services will be held at Gan Shalom Cemetery, 1100 Bear Creek Road, Briones, CA at 10:00 AM, Friday May 21, 2010.
