I tried your brother on his cell and home lines but didn’t get an answer. I know he’s still recuperating, and I don’t want to harangue him, but if you have a chance to mention the enclosed invitation to him, I’d be awfully grateful. It’s a very prestigious award, and I know the Committee would be honored to have him, especially as they celebrate the 100th anniversary of Father’s Day.


No pressure, of course - - if he can’t/doesn’t want to do it, I completely understand.

Dear General Biden,


I hope this note finds you well, feeling better each and every day.


The National Father’s Day Committee would like to honor you with the 2010 Father of the Year award. As you may know, the Committee promotes the importance of fatherhood and holds events around the country in conjunction with Father’s Day to honor men from all walks of life. The national awards, which are held in New York City, have honored everyone from Presidents, to actors, to journalists, to business leaders, to athletes, to ordinary citizens. Past honorees include Colin Powell, Archie Manning, Norman Schwarzkopf, Tommy Lasorda and Michael Bloomberg. My own father, Uncle Jack, Uncle Bobby and Uncle Teddy are also on the list!


In addition to being a great event with a great purpose, the event raises money for Save the Children’s U.S. Programs, which I run. Last year, between the Father’s Day and Mother’s Day events, we received over $400,000.


This year, the awards will be distributed at a luncheon on Thursday, June 17 at the Sheraton New York. With 2010 marking the 100th anniversary of Father’s Day, we expect that the event will receive even more press coverage, and having you there would really help underscore the importance of fatherhood.


No pressure, of course - - I know this is a long shot, but I wouldn’t ask if I didn’t think it was a worthwhile event. If you would like to discuss, I am on the cell (301-351-1992).
