Subject: Pool report on Vice President Biden's remarks at fundraiser.

VPOTUS Joseph R. Biden Jr. hosted a light brunch fundraiser for his son, Delaware Attorney General Joseph R. “Beau” Biden III, on Saturday morning at the vice-president's family home in Greenville, northwest of Wilmington, Del.
Attorney General Beau Biden briefly greeted and thanked the group by speakerphone from his hospital room.

About 150 people attended the event, held under a covered area alongside the home on a morning marked by mild temperatures and bright sunshine . The menu included: smoked salmon with bagels, cream cheese, capers and minced onions; egg and cheese souffle both with and without sausage; fresh fruit salad; muffins and croissants.

The fundraiser was scheduled well before the younger Biden’s hospitalization on Tuesday following a mild stroke, according to Joe Rogalsky, a spokesman for the attorney general.

Biden, wearing a dark blue jacket and open-collar shirt, addressed the entire group for about 4 minutes, thanking family friends and supporters of his son’s re-election campaign.
Attorney General Beau Biden greeted those at the fundraiser by speakerphone from Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, speaking for about 2 minutes.
No other issues or current events were discussed.

“I promise you. I give you my word as a Biden: He’s doing well. The doctor said he’s 100 percent now. Everything is squared away. Thank God for big favors,” Vice-president Biden said.
The vice-president described his son as being “committed and excited about the next four years.”
“Beau is excited about this campaign. Beau is excited about the job. The only regret he has about being a year in Iraq was being away from Hallie and the kids, and, unfortunately, not being able to be at the job.”
“It’s all great, and we have a little surprise for you. We have another speaker. Take it away. It’s all your’s.”

Attorney General Biden began speaking without introduction.
“Hey, can everybody hear me,” Beau Biden asked. The question was followed immediately by laughter and applause from the guests.
“Hallie made it clear to me that if I tried to escape she’d have me handcuffed here. But I’ll be home in a few days," Biden said.
“I just wanted to call and let each and every one of you know how much I appreciate your support for me and for the family on so many levels,” Attorney General Biden said. “I’m looking forward to getting back to work and running for re-election as well.”
“I’m eager to continue the that we started, that many of you helped me start, in 2006. There’s so much we can do and so much we can do for the people of the state, working with the governor and so many other people, and really, most especially, protecting our kids,” Beau Biden said. “I can’t wait to see you all. I’ll be home real soon.”

VPOTUS singled out several guests for thanks, including Delaware Gov. Jack Markell; Sen. Ted Kaufman, who was appointed to VP Biden’s seat in January 2009; New Castle County Executive Chris Coons, a Democrat who is seeking Biden’s old Senate seat; and family friends, including former Delaware Republican congressman Tom Evans.
“Only in Delaware would a former Republican congressman turn out to be a Democratic vice-president’s best buddy,” Vice-president Biden said.
