O'Malley's daughter, 18, treated, released from hospital

Gov. Martin O'Malley's 18-year-old daughter was briefly hospitalized last night in Baltimore after she was found unconscious at the Inner Harbor, according to a police report.

A source familiar with the incident said Tara O'Malley, a high school senior, had been at a house party in Towson and traveled to the Inner Harbor with an 18-year-old male friend to board a boat. A citizen flagged down a city police officer saying the young woman seemed intoxicated. She was taken to Harbor Hospital, where she was admitted and released a short time later.

It was not immediately clear how the teens got to the harbor from Towson or whether Tara O'Malley receives executive protection services from the Maryland State Police.

According to a police report of the incident, a officer on foot patrol at 7:30 p.m. saw a young woman who "appeared to be unconscious" in the 700 block of Light St. The officer called a medical unit, according to the report, and responders determined that Tara O'Malley's condition was "non-life threatening." The medic transported her to the hospital.

In a statement last night to the Associated Press, the governor's spokesman did not say why she was hospitalized. The statement calls it a private, family matter and asks that the O'Malley family's privacy be respected.

The governor has two daughters and two sons; Tara O'Malley is the second-oldest child.
