Hunter,
I would prefer that you go to Third point alone today. I set the meeting up as a one-on-one with Dan and I know he was looking forward to spending time alone with you. He will be confused as to why you are bringing someone else and I don't think it's appropriate. I wish you had mentioned this to me first. It's not that I don't like Neil (I do) it's just that we shouldn't be introducing a new topic into your conversation (research) at this time except very casually (which you can do yourself). They just agreed to take work with the Mathis Group and it's enough for now.
Anyway, it you can cancel Neil's coming to the meeting, I think you should.
I have work with these guys every week for months and know how they think. If we decide to recommend research to them, we should discuss who in at Third Point should attend to maximize our chance of getting a correct answer (Josh should be at that meeting) and I should attend also.
if you were already planning to just have a casual conversation, as I mentioned above, you should do this yourself. You will compromise the tenor of the meeting by bringing Neil and Dan (at best) will be confused and (at worst) will think we set up the meeting just to get him to discuss research (which isn't the objective).
Let me know your thoughts...
