Thursday - May 20, 2010 From the School QUERY “How can we work together to help solve conflicts without taking sides or making the problem bigger?” --Written by 1X HOUSEHOLD INFO DUE BY JUNE 1ST The deadline is approaching quickly. Please follow directions on SFS website to update Household/Student Info found under Parent Portal. These forms must be submitted by June 1st. Final student reports for the current school year will be held until this task is completed. All returning students must have a yearly physical with any new immunizations noted. The Physician’s Report can be downloaded and is due back by July 15th along with the daily arrangements for After School transportation. Find forms to download on SFS website.LOST & FOUND All marked clothing from the Lost & Found box has been returned to the owners. The remaining jackets, sweaters, fleeces, shirts, etc. are displayed on the floor (larger sizes are near the exit door downstairs in the Groome Building; medium sizes are near the door to the Pumpkin Room; small sizes are near PK and K). Please encourage your students to search through the clothing and re-claim their very nice clothes. Remaining items will be sent to Martha’s Table when we make the last soup of the year on May 26th.TEAM TWO CELEBRATION OF JAPAN On Thursday, May 27th grades 2 and 2x will each culminate our Japan study with a celebration of Japanese culture including haiku, kamishibai, performances and demonstrations followed by refreshments and Japanese treats. This will also be our last chance to be together as a community, before moving on to third grade! Please have your child arrive between 8:00 am and 8:15 am. The program will start promptly at 8:30 am. Note: Unfortunately, due to our limited space we can accommodate parents only.VISITOR LANYARDS It is hard to believe but we now have fifteen days of school left before the lazy, days of summer are upon us. We would be very grateful if you could look through your car and your house and return to the Manor House all those wonderful red Sidwell Friends School Visitor lanyards. Many thanks.LAST DAY OF SCHOOL -- FRIDAY, JUNE 11TH The last day of school for all Lower School students is Friday, June 11th. We hold the 4th grade graduation ceremony from 9:15-10:00 am in the gym. The 4th graders enjoy the ceremony, join their families for a reception, and then leave campus for a swim party around 10:45 am. All PK through Grade 3 students attend the graduation ceremony and then return to classrooms for the remainder of the morning. We dismiss the students at 12:00 noon (no lunch is served) and ask that parents pick up promptly because the LS faculty and staff are invited to a Parents Association Appreciation Lunch. The shuttle bus will run to the Wisconsin Avenue campus immediately after dismissal.GRADUATION ATTIRE FOR 4TH GRADERS Boys – White dress shirt with collar or polo shirt (long or short sleeves); Dress pants, no jacket or tie. PA Announcements JOIN YOUR CHILD FOR TUESDAY MEETING FOR WORSHIP Tuesday, May 25th 1:20-2:00pm As the year draws to a close, please remember that you are always welcome to come share Meeting for Worship with your child's current class. Including parents in the classroom or meeting house Meetings for Worship is a wonderful tradition and gives parents an opportunity to model silent worship and appropriate behavior for our active children. Parking during Meeting is available in the driveway/carpool line. Meeting begins promptly at 1:30. On May 25th, Classes 3, 2X and PK will be in the meeting house. Grade 4Y will go to join Grade 1 in the Grade 1 classroom. 4X will go to K. 1X will go to 4. KX will go to 2. 3X will go to 3.VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR FIELD DAY Field Day is Wednesday, June 2nd. Come help out with this favorite Lower School Tradition. The kids look forward to a day of games, food and outdoor fun, and you can too! One volunteer per class is needed to help set up, run the games, and clean up. The time commitment is 9 am to 12 pm.
