South Africa Friends

Well,… I still have not packed, but I have a few more days.

Phones

Mr. Fleming and I have been talking, and we are going to allow students to bring cell phones if they wish. The travel time alone may require students to want to listen to music or entertain themselves for 18 hours + in the air. Not to mention, the ability to take photos in Africa will be important. We are going to be spending a lot of time outside and students will each have their own personal connection to the work and our experiences. It will be important for them to document those experiences.

However, there will be restrictions. We will discuss as a group the time when students are allowed to have their phones and we will collect them during our orientation, when we are working and at the final room checks at night. Please remember to call your service provider to request a plan. In the past, students have simply kept their phones in airplane mode and connected to wifi at the hotel and internet cafes (free) . IF YOU DO NOT HAVE AN INTERNATIONAL PLAN…DO NOT ANSWER YOUR PHONE. IT WILL COST YOU!

Passport

Please make sure you have at least 3 or more consecutive pages BLANK in your passport. THEY WILL NOT LET YOU IN THE COUNTRY. Triple check those!
