C_TEC experienced significant growth throughout 2017 and that is thanks to the support and participation of our members. Heading into 2018, the C_TEC team will be focused on increasing our impact and effectively leveraging the resources of the Chamber for the tech community.

I am excited about this year's programmatic work and how it complements our policy efforts designed to further our member companies' agenda. I look forward to seizing opportunities this year to highlight the great work of C_TEC members and further engage with you and your companies. Finally, I am also pleased to welcome Jordan Crenshaw as Assistant Policy Counsel for the Chamber Technology Engagement Center (C_TEC). In this role, Jordan will analyze federal privacy, broadband, internet, e-commerce, and broadcast policies that impact U.S. businesses. He will also assist the Chamber with general regulatory reform initiatives which would have an effect on high-impact telecommunications regulations.

On December 5th, Jordan Crenshaw authored an article (https://t.e2ma.net/click/r2bxhd/r2f0ql/7egleq) about the FCC's plan to rollback 2015's Open Internet Order.

On December 15th, C_TEC and the Confederation of Indian Industry held a roundtable discussion with Indian startups and U.S. companies. Among the representatives were Nick Desai, CEO and co-founder of Heal and Silvia Spring, U.S. Foreign Policy Manager at Airbnb.

On January 4th, C_TEC and the Chamber sent a letter (https://t.e2ma.net/click/r2bxhd/r2f0ql/n7gleq) to Representative Blackburn about H.R. 4682, the "Open Internet Preservation Act."

From January 9th- January 12th, the C_TEC team attended the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

On January 18th, C_TEC, in collaboration with Facebook and Morning Consult released a report (https://t.e2ma.net/click/r2bxhd/r2f0ql/3zhleq) that explores how small businesses are using social media and digital platforms to grow, sell, and hire.

On January 18th, we partnered with other trade associations to send a letter (https://t.e2ma.net/click/r2bxhd/r2f0ql/jsileq) to the Department of Homeland Security to express our support of the Employment Authorization for Certain H-4 Spouses Rule.

On January 18th, Tim authored an article (https://t.e2ma.net/click/r2bxhd/r2f0ql/zkjleq) discussing the real impact of digital tools, especially social networking sites, on small business owners. Tim explains how technology is playing an important role in helping U.S. small businesses start, scale, and succeed.

On January 18th, the Chamber laid out its vision for the country’s infrastructure at an event which brought together business leaders including AirMap, Velodyne LiDAR, and Proterra, policymakers, and investors to discuss the modernization of the nation’s foundation. On January 25th, FCC Commissioner Carr spoke (https://t.e2ma.net/click/r2bxhd/r2f0ql/v5kleq) with C_TEC about modernizing FCC rules and the FCC's 2018 agenda.

On January 26th, Jordan Crenshaw and Julie Stitzel co-authored an article (https://t.e2ma.net/click/r2bxhd/r2f0ql/bylleq) about new policy needed for autonomous vehicles.

On January 30th, the C_TEC team held its Autonomous Vehicles (AV) Working Group conference call. Cheri Pascoe, Senior Professional Staff Member and Investigator for Chairman John Thune (R-SD) and Sydney Paul, Legislative Counsel for Ranking Member Gary Peters (D-MI) of U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation provided an update on the AV START Act. Additionally, we reviewed the working group's 2018 policy priorities.

On January 30th, C_TEC sent a letter (https://t.e2ma.net/click/r2bxhd/r2f0ql/rqmleq) addressed to the Honorable Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and the Honorable Michael Doyle (D-PA), Chairman and Ranking Member of Communications and Technology Committee on Energy and Commerce, respectively. The letter highlights C_TEC's commitment on advancing legislation to expand broadband service in the country.

The Chamber has been a leading voice in the immigration debate, pushing for a DACA fix, and retaining protection status for Salvadorians and other immigrants.
