Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon has stepped down as executive chairman of Breitbart News, the company announced Tuesday.

The move comes after President Donald Trump gave a public rebuke of his former White House strategist in response to critical comments Bannon reportedly made about members of the Trump family and campaign.

"I'm proud of what the Breitbart team has accomplished in so short a period of time in building out a world-class news platform," Bannon said in a statement.
