Dear Board of Directors, I am looking forward to seeing you for our 2018 Board Strategy Retreat on January 31 – February 1, 2018 at The St. Regis (923 16th Street NW, Washington, D.C.). We will begin at 10:30am on Wednesday, January 31 and conclude after breakfast on Thursday, February 1. We will send the final Board meeting agenda and read-ahead materials prior to the meeting. There is much to discuss for our year ahead and I hope you will make every effort to join us. If you have not done so already, please RSVP to Emily Benovitz at ebenovitz@usglc.org<mailto:ebenovitz@usglc.org>. For now, see a few items below. Many thanks. Liz Liz Schrayer, President & CEO Board Meeting Information 1. Guest Speakers & Discussion Topics For the past 6 weeks, our schedule was all set! We were thrilled that the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dunford and VP Pence’s Chief of Staff Nick Ayers were confirmed as our premier guests. Then on Friday, both of our guests called to tell us they were pulled away for travel. Their offices felt terrible and committed to reschedule ASAP to meet with our Board of Directors. The good news is that we have been in touch with a number of very senior players in town and are confident we will have a fabulous line-up. Stay tuned for an update on our speakers. In the meantime, we have some very serious strategy conversations where I will need your wisdom and counsel: * The upcoming Budget Battles - where the Administration’s FY19 request will likely include a more severe and disproportionate cut than last year; * The 2018 and 2020 Election Cycle – and how we manage the tumultuous and volatile season, including message and growing number of candidates; * The ever changing Policy Debates – from opportunities (e.g., OPIC and new Development Finance legislation) to challenges (e.g., personnel cuts, redesign, Africa comments, etc.) 2. Special Reception Evening of February 1 Please note that we are hosting a special reception after the Board meeting on Thursday evening, February 1 to celebrate the launch of USGLC’s inaugural report of our Global Impact Project, which many of our Board members are Founding Partners. We are expecting a good showing of our friends from Capitol Hill and the Administration to be joining us at the reception which will take place at the UPS Townhouse (421 New Jersey Ave. SE) from 5:00pm – 7:00pm on the 1st. All Board members are invited and I hope you can join us.
