Gather your team, your friends, family, and colleagues to help raise $ 100,000 at this this awesome tribute to our dad and brother, Scott A. Mackler, MD, PhD who lost his life to ALS. You can sign up and donate today at www.scottmackler5K.com <https://www.alsphiladelphia.org/page.redir?target=http%3a%2f%2fwww.scottmackler5K.com&srcid=45558&srctid=1&erid=12414798&trid=4677822f-8c18-4cf9-8c21-08c3919faaaf>. Bring friends! And of course, once again the event is followed by a full buffet. Money raised through your donations is contributing to important advances in communication for those living with ALS. Recently, Dr. Melanie Fried-Oken presented an ALS Association podcast on Brain Computer Interface (BCI). The expert spoke about how this emerging technology will help people with ALS and others who are “locked in” communicate. Guess who was the first ALS patient to successfully use this complex technology? RIGHT – Scott. Also, in part because of your support, the Steve Gleason Act was enacted last year. This Act will provide relief to ALS patients who have been denied things such as speech-generating devices through Medicare and Medicaid. While Scott was not a football star like Gleason who played for the New Orleans Saints and is now battling ALS, his trailblazing efforts on behalf of ALS patients communication needs will never be forgotten. Please continue Scott’s efforts by joining us on November 6th. PS – Don’t forget the Mackler Family Challenge Grant – any fraternity/sorority, church/synagogue or other teamthat raises more than $ 5,000 and is highest within their category will receive an unrestricted grant in the amount of $ 500.00 from the Mackler Family.
