On behalf of the CoKF Board of Directors, we write to share the exciting news that Ken Okoth has received the endorsement of his party in the primary election to become a Member of Parliament in Kenya. On Sunday, Ken received the Certificate of Party Nomination and he will now stand in the general election scheduled for Monday, March 4th.
The Foundation’s board has been working closely with Ken for the past year to prepare for the possibility of this outcome – and most importantly, to ensure a smooth and effective transition should Ken need to reduce his role with the Children of Kibera Foundation. Since last year, CoKF has seen its programs and donor support nearly double – and 2013 is already tracking for another year of growth in helping Kibera’s children at the primary, secondary and post high school level.

To our donors and friends, we again say “thank you”.

We would like to assure you that the Board is working to maintain and increase the scope of the foundation’s work and to ensure a smooth and effective leadership transition if Ken prevails in the general election. If Ken is elected, he will continue to play a central role in fundraising and guiding the mission of the Foundation. He has already committed to visiting the United States later this year (likely in April or May 2013). As in the past, Ken will host the students who will travel to Kenya this summer for our Foundation’s annual Service and Learning Trip.

As Founder, Ken will always be a committed and dedicated leader for CoKF.

Our Board is already working directly with Ken’s leadership team in Nairobi, including CoKF Operations Director Jeff Ochieng and Academic Director Jacob Seje. Together, we will continue to guide the Foundation’s programs and to build long-term financial and organizational security for CoKF and the children and families who depend on our programs. Over the past year we have taken significant steps to build on past success. We have strengthened our budgeting and accounting processes, we are modernizing our fundraising and donor relations activities, and we are constantly evaluating our programming strategies and tactics with a focus on providing high quality, life-changing support for as many children as possible.

Simply put, we have tremendous confidence in the future of CoKF and look forward to building on the programs that provide opportunities for more children to follow in the footsteps of Ken Okoth.

We will keep you updated you on Ken’s election and our work to at appropriate moments but wanted to thank you for your support of CoKF – and let you know the prospects for CoKF remain as bright as ever.
