Hunter - Below (and attached) are draft talking points for your speech on Saturday night. As Rick mentioned this morning, he's available to chat today about your remarks and offer some additional thoughts whenever works for you today. Lauren Parks (copied here) - our Digital Media Strategist who worked closely with Katie during Live Below the Line week - will send over a few tweets for you to post BEFORE Saturday re: your speech. Stay tuned. We're also going to put something up on WFP USA's blog about your upcoming appearance at Saturday's event. Let us know if you need anything else. Hope Saturday is a huge success and thank you, as always, for getting the word out about the important work that WFP and WFP USA is doing in the Philippines. Best, Erin TALKING POINTS for HUNTER * As you've heard tonight, Typhoon Haiyan was a devastating storm affecting millions of people. * I was honored to visit the Philippines about a month after the storm hit in my role as Chairman of the Board of World Food Program USA. * I was immensely proud to see U.S. leadership in the relief efforts, including the role of the U.S. military. * I was equally impressed by the staff of the UN World Food Programme who came from all over the world to deliver food assistance to 3 million people in need. * As I crisscrossed the areas affected by the typhoon, I was overwhelmed by the devastation. In some places, there wasn't a single coconut tree or structure standing miles inland. * But amidst these scenes of loss, there were already signs of hope and progress toward recovery. * After the typhoon swept through the city of Tacloban, local survivors had scrawled "PLEASE HELP" on slabs of debris. By the time I arrived, the handmade signs read simply: "Thank you". * Food and medicines were being distributed and the Filipino people were working together to clean up the mess and rebuild their lives. * I was amazed by this resilience. In fact during my travels there I learned a Filipino word that captures this spirit of community - it is called Bayanihan. (Pronounced: BYE-YA-NEE-HAN) * The response to Typhoon Haiyan showed us what the world can accomplish when we work together. Big and small, everyone played a part and each contribution made an impact.
