Stand with BeauOver the past month, we've seen some heated discussion on the best ways to reduce gun violence in America.

The tragedy that took place in Newtown just over a month ago shook this country to the core. As Delaware's Attorney General and a father of two beautiful children, it has always been my mission to protect the most vulnerable among us. And I know that we can do better. We must.

I've joined with Gov. Jack Markell and Lt. Gov. Matt Denn in support of a package of legislation aimed at reducing gun violence in Delaware.

I want to be clear: I am a supporter the Second Amendment. And I believe these are constitutional, common-sense solutions that will keep weapons that belong on the battlefield off our streets and out of our communities.

Background checks for private gun sales. Preventing the sale or transfer of high-capacity magazines. Mandatory reporting of lost or stolen firearms. Firearm-free safe school zones. These are initiatives that have worked in other states before, and there's no reason we can't make them work for us.

In addition, we will be pushing for a ban on automatic and semi-automatic military-style assault weapons. The state ban is similar to the national Assault Weapons Ban that expired in 2004, and will be focused on taking rifles with military features out of our communities.
