This special introductory class is being offered for anyone interested in learning more about the upcoming 8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction courses. Our next MBSR course begins on July 10. In this introductory class you will learn about some of the principles of mindfulness and practice both formal and informal mindfulness meditation. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an eight-week program that assists people who want to learn to use their own internal resources to respond more skillfully to stress, medical and psychological conditions, and promote healthy living. It offers spiritual insight and practices along with their practical application to health and wellbeing. The classes are modeled after the ones offered at the Stress Reduction Clinic developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. This 30-year-old program is highly respected in the medical community. It and also has been featured on PBS in Bill Moyers’ documentary, “Healing and the Mind”, the Oprah Winfrey Show, NBC’s Dateline, ABC’s Evening News, and hundreds of newspapers and magazine articles. The course schedule consists of eight weekly classes and one day-long workshop. This highly participatory, practical course includes: Guided instruction in mindfulness meditation practices Gentle stretching and mindful yoga Group dialogue and discussions aimed at enhancing awareness in everyday life Daily home assignments Four home practice CDs and a home practice manual Participants attending the two-hour class should bring comfortable clothing, layers for adjusting to the temperature, and pillows for comfort.
