Veteran Fundraising Professional joins CER as Senior Director of Development

WASHINGTON, DC – This week, CER President, Jeanne Allen welcomed back CER alumna and seasoned development professional Stephanie Heishman as Senior Director of Development. Stephanie will oversee all of the organization’s philanthropic and fundraising activities.

Stephanie started her career 12 years ago as a junior staffer and executive assistant at the Center, eventually working to create CER’s first-ever development department, where she honed many of her early fundraising skills.

“We’re grateful to have Stephanie back to lead our development shop. She returns to us with new skills and a professional poise that will keep CER’s strong and loyal funders engaged and committed. I’m so happy for all of us,” said Allen.

Prior to joining CER this week, Stephanie served as Senior Development Manager with The Society for Science & the Public (SSP), working to grow the Society’s institution, individual and corporate funding base to support its mission of public engagement in scientific research and education.

Stephanie also has vast experience in marketing, business development and philanthropic communications and events. She has managed recruitment and outreach for several large-scale tradeshows and education competitions, worked with both nonprofit and corporate clients to grow their funding revenue, and has managed membership recruitment and retention programs at the Nature Conservancy, American Occupational Therapy Association and others.

Holding a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Luther College, (Decorah, Iowa), Stephanie currently sits on the founding board of directors of Nexus Academy of DC, a blended learning charter school that is expected to open Fall, 2013. She is also a former board member of the Direct Marketing Association of Washington and member of the Association of Fundraising Nonprofits.
