Did You Know...WHS Helps ALL Animals?

You may know that WHS works every single day to ensure that all
animals in our community have secure homes. What you may not know, is
that this does not just pertain to cats and dogs - we are truly
committed to helping ALL animals, whether they are traditional
housepets or wildlife. Some days, that commitment to serving any
animal in need in our community is more challenging than others.

Meet Wallie, the alligator - actually, a five-year-old Caiman, to be
precise. The landlord of Wallie's former owner discovered him living
in a tank in an apartment bedroom. Aside from being against the
landlord's policies, it is illegal to own an alligator in the
District. Two of our officers quickly arrived on the scene and brought
Wallie back to WHS. He then got to spend a little time with some of
our more unusual adoptable animals in our "exotics" room at our New
York Avenue Adoption Center. We are fortunate to have great
relationships with local rescue groups and sanctuaries, and within a
few short days, Wallie was off to a much more appropriate home to live
out his life!

Remember, if you ever see any animal - domestic or wild - in need of
help, please contact WHS immediately by calling 202-723-5730, 24 hours
a day, seven days a week.

Buy Pie - Help Animals

With the holidays quickly approaching, the Washington Humane Society
would like to share with you a terrific opportunity to help two great
charities at the
same time! For every 20 pies that WHS sells to benefit Food &
Friends, we will receive $450 in credit at
Friendship Hospital for Animals to care for our animals in need! WHS
relies on Friendship Hospital to
provide critical 24-hour veterinary care for many of our injured
animals. So, when you buy a
delicious pie, you are helping support the mission of both Food &
Friends and the Washington Humane Society!
