On behalf of the Chesapeake Crescent Initiative (CCI), I would like to invite you to CCI’s annual regional meeting on Tuesday, December 16th from 9AM to 3PM (doors open at 8:30AM) at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center’s Rotunda Room in Washington, D.C.

The “Advancing Safe + Smart Cities in the Chesapeake Crescent Region: A New Collaborative Framework” event details are still being finalized, but we expect to:

* Highlight CCI’s Safe + Smart Cities program, which helps cities in the MD-VA-DC-DE region optimize their operational performance and harden their resiliency through a collaborative process between local government and the program’s multi-sector coalition of experts;
* Examine challenges and opportunities encountered by local governments as they seek to position their communities to be robust city-engines – with enhanced services, citizen-participation and economic development opportunities – which remain hardy in the face of adversity;
* Explore how different sectors – private industry, government, finance, academia and the law – each play a role in developing safe + smart communities;
* Share initial takeaways from the first Safe + Smart Cities pilot project in Newark, DE and what lies ahead from the Safe + Smart Cities Coalition.
