This month, Truman welcomed the Class of 2018, celebrated International Women’s Day, and participated in a second Facebook Live event concerning Special Counsel Mueller’s investigation. Amanda Sloat Amanda Sloat is a Robert Bosch Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution. She served in the U.S. government for nearly a decade, most recently as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Southern Europe and Eastern Mediterranean Affairs at the State Department. She also served as senior advisor to the White House Coordinator for the Middle East, North Africa, and Gulf region. Sloat previously worked as senior professional staff on the U.S. House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee. Prior to her government service, she was a senior program officer with the National Democratic Institute (NDI), where she worked in Iraq with the Council of Representatives. She was also a post-doctoral research fellow with the Institute of Governance at Queen's University Belfast. Sloat holds a PhD in politics from the University of Edinburgh and a BA in political theory from James Madison College at Michigan State University. Recently, Sloat has contributed to high-level policy debates in Washington and Europe about the future of Western relations with Turkey. Members came from across the country for the weekend-long orientations, where they met staff and heard from Truman\u2019s President and CEO Michael Breen on the values-based worldview held at Truman. Truman’s President and CEO Michael Breen provided some top-line framing of the investigation’s status in light of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence’s recent decision to prematurely end its own work on the subject, and three Truman Fellows—Amanda Sloat, Kristina Wilfore, and Dr. Agnia Grigas—spoke about various places around the world where Russian foreign policy currently opposes U.S. interests and values.
