R.Hunter: Climate change is no longer tomorrow's nightmare - it's today's reality, and people are suffering because of it, in our country and around the world.

That is why my friend Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse walked onto the Senate floor on Tuesday and gave his 200th speech demanding urgent, bipartisan action to address climate change. It is also why I joined him on the floor, urging colleagues to choose action over reaction and policies over politics.

This shouldn't be a partisan issue. The science is clear: We're living through the hottest stretch of years on record. Nevertheless, Donald Trump has turned a blind eye to the facts, labeling climate change a Chinese "hoax," abandoning the Paris climate agreement and advancing policy that would destroy our chances of saving the planet.

I couldn't be more grateful for Sheldon's leadership on this critical issue. We need more committed leaders in the Senate fighting for climate action - but he is up for re-election this year, and he needs our help.

As someone who hails from the lowest mean elevation state in the country, I can tell you firsthand that folks across Delaware are getting more and more worried about rising sea levels and their impact on our state. Every single day, we're seeing the consequences of a warming planet - yet Republicans still refuse to act.

It is more obvious than ever: With Trump in the White House and a climate change denier heading the EPA, we need committed advocates like Sheldon raising their voices to demand better from our elected officials. Thank you for doing your part to keep him in the Senate so we can keep waging this all-important fight for many more years to come.
