Fyi, when I met with Ariel last week I gave them the following information for their board presentation. Most of it came from Barclays Capital.


1. $3 billion of new money flowed out of money market accounts in the month of December, 2010 into retail leveraged loan funds. That is on top of $16 billion in all of 2010.
2. That number compares with $4.6 billion for the entire year of 2009 and $13 billion which went into retail high yield accounts in 2010.
3. Retail accounts for approximately 10% of the overall institutional market.
4. Prudential and Nuveen recently announced that they were starting funds focused on leveraged bank loans-adjustable rate senior and junior debt.
5. Pimco recently announced it was launching a senior floating rate debt fund.
6. Bill Gross of Pimco exclaimed that 2011 will be the year of "floating rate instruments"
