Ballston, meet your new sustainable salad joint. Now, this is my kinda place. At

the salads are fresh, the toppings are plentiful and the tart frozen yogurt is just
the thing for a mid-day snack.
But, what really stands out is how Sweetgreen's ingredients consist of only organic
and locally grown foods. Plus, they use 100% plant-based compostable packaging for
their bowls, cutlery and cups. The environment thanks you, and so does my full and
happy belly!
With its big windows and warm ambiance, this just may be my new go-to lunch place,
especially when I need a good healthy pick-me-up.

Arlington Real Estate Rebounds

Property Values Up 6.3% Overall

Arlington's 2011 real estate assessments are up 6.3% overall, nearly erasing last
year's decline of 7.2%. The commercial sector, including office and apartment properties,
showed particular strength, gaining 12% and nearly recouping last year's decline
of almost 13%.

Assessments for existing residential properties, including detached homes, condominiums
and townhouses, are up 1.4%. Real estate assessments were mailed January 14th to
all Arlington property owners.

Ballston/Beaver Pond Retrofit Study Launched

has just launched a study to improve and retrofit the Ballston/Beaver Pond storm-water
detention facility. The pond is located in the Bluemont neighborhood just off Fairfax
Drive, Glebe Rd., Washington Blvd. and I-66. The Ballston/Beaver Pond Stakeholder
Group convened for its first stakeholder meeting on January 23rd at the Arlington
Traditional School.

The goal of the Ballston/Beaver Pond Retrofit Study is to redesign the pond so that
it maintains flood protection, improves the storm-water quality treatment and improves
the wildlife habitat of the pond. This habitat will be improved by removing litter
and invasive plant species, and replanting only native plants.
The funding for this project will come out of a special fund, which is used only
for storm-water quality improvement projects.
