The All School Parents Association and Quaker Life Committees invite all parents to an evening with Susan Sachs Goldman on Monday January 24, 2011, 7-9 pm in the Middle School Drama Room. Susan holds a B.A. in Political Science from Wellesley College and an M.A. in American History from Brandeis University. She has enjoyed a longstanding interest in Friends' history, beginning in graduate school and continuing through the education of her three children, all lifers at Sidwell Friends. She served on the Board of Trustees for eleven years, serving as Clerk for three. Her experience at Sidwell Friends introduced her to a world of consensus, independent thinking, passionate concern, and respect for others. She believes that the history of Quaker social action in America is an inspiring story that is largely unappreciated -- and one that should be shared. She is just completing a book on this subject to be published later this spring. Susan was the Hubben Annual Faculty Lecturer at Penn Charter last month and has spoken recently at Alexandria Friends School and to the Quaker Heads of School Conference in April 2010. Teacher Appreciation Valentine's Cookie Bake (February 11, 7:45am) The US Parents Association is sponsoring a Valentine's Day Appreciation Cookie Bake for our wonderful teachers and staff on Friday, February 11th. We need five volunteers from each grade to bake two to three dozen homemade cookies (Over forty dozen cookies are needed.) Contributions should be dropped off at the Upper School Dining Room no later than 7:45am on the morning of Friday, February 11th. We traditionally ask the 11th Grade to take the lead on this Teacher Appreciation event. We will need TEN 11th Grade parents to meet in the Upper School Dining Room on February 11th at 7:45am to help put together 120 festive, cellophane bags of homemade cookies for our teachers. Last year it took about an hour to assemble the delicious cookie bags. Please contribute: 11th & 12th Grades - 5 parents (per grade) to each bake 2 to 3 dozen small sized cookies. 11th Grade - 10 parents to help put together the cookie bags. (Friday, February 11 @7:45am/ US Dining Room) The faculty welcomes these special Valentine's Day treats. The USPA thanks you for your help in showing our appreciation to the incredible Sidwell Friends faculty, coaching, administrative and security/grounds/building staff. Please email Maria Gomez, mgomez@maryscenter.org<http://us.mc564.mail.yahoo.com/mc/compose?to=mgomez@maryscenter.org>, if you would like to contribute. Thanks again! Donna, Karen, Tanya, and Yingjie
