06/09/2016 08:01 AM EDT By Heather Caygle (hcaygle@politico.com or @heatherscope) With assistance from Seung Min Kim ATTACK DOG STEPS UP - With news that Sen. Elizabeth Warren is gearing up to endorse Hillary Clinton-and hasn't ruled out vying for the VP slot-she's also stepping up her attacks on presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump, starting today. "The Massachusetts senator will rip into Trump today with a searing attack on his 'racism' as an extension of the Republican Party's strategy of blocking a Supreme Court nominee while they confirm just a trickle of judges," writes Burgess Everett. She'll also pillory Trump for being a "loud, nasty, thin-skinned fraud" during her speech before the American Constitution Society. The escalated attacks couldn't come at a better time for Warren-demonstrating that she's not going to back down from a fight with Trump, a valuable asset for any Democratic VP nominee. And she might be able to get some advice from current Vice President Joe Biden-both are scheduled to address the convention during an opening dinner tonight. From Burgess: http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=cbfab33a38a6f56945ca3160d9a406dd2807d8fbb3b96ff5b1275dbda8ee2ac8 -Related read: Trump support shrinking on Capitol Hill. http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=cbfab33a38a6f569392fa96cf7a29f8514408ea1af4e9a3d2ef56006254ea335 NEW THIS A.M.: RUBIO BREAKS SILENCE ON JUDGE - Marc Caputo and Seung Min Kim with the scoop: "Sen. Marco Rubio is breaking his silence over why he blocked the nomination of a South Florida judge: He has 'concerns' about how honest she was during the vetting process for the lifetime federal appointment." "'I have concerns about two of the answers she gave during her process through the [Judicial Nominating Commission]. They did not reflect the answers she later gave to the Judiciary Committee in their review of her, including her role in a particular case. And that right there is going to make it almost impossible for her to get confirmed,' Rubio said Monday in a portion of an unaired interview with WFTV in Orlando that was shared with Politico." Much, much more: http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=cbfab33a38a6f56962b4920c838e6f4323c78c9581e73a343a37ab7c2afcb119 LET'S TRY THIS AGAIN - House Speaker Paul Ryan will head to the Council on Foreign Relations later this morning to roll out the second part of his ambitious GOP policy agenda, this time focusing on national security. Your Huddle host is sure Ryan and aides are hoping today is smoother than Tuesday when Ryan was flooded with Trump questions at his big kickoff event in Anacostia. Read the plan: http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=bbaeadabb852783d8a85a13c1f2f6c9d87030e86e36ee252cb189048be157841 Ryan makes media rounds: Today Ryan will tape an interview with ABC for its Sunday show, followed by another taping with Hugh Hewitt to air on Friday and do a live radio interview with WISN at 9:20 a.m. Phew, we're tired just thinking about it. From the Speaker's office: In total, Ryan will have done eight interviews this week, including appearing on two Sunday shows and his Tuesday press conference. TURN UP, IT'S THURSDAY, June 9. Bernie Sanders heads back into Washington today for separate meetings with President Obama and Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, Dems are trying a new tack to ease him out of the presidential campaign: Giving the man a little space. Burgess and Seung Min: "With Sanders on his way to Washington on Thursday, his colleagues in the Senate are softening their once-sharp rhetoric toward the independent senator who ran an insurgent campaign against Hillary Clinton. ...They want to give him room to coalesce his movement behind Clinton - on his own terms." Read it: http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=bbaeadabb852783db59fc98bffceeb908fe98579eedb2ed28de657a66832f5b4 BURR FOR VEEP? Yet another Senate Republican has landed on Donald Trump's rumored short list for vice president: Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr, who's running for re-election in North Carolina this fall. Huddle caught up with the senator, who tried to swat away the chatter: "It's way too early for anybody to take any of that seriously and I think they've stated very well, they're not gonna be making any determinations ... until the convention." Huddle tried again, asking Burr whether he would rule it out. "Listen," he responded. "It's crazy to even talk about it now." Sounds to us like he's not ruling it out. SENATE DEMOCRATS ROLL OUT POLICY AGENDA: "Moving into general-election mode, Senate Democrats on Thursday will begin rolling out a policy agenda meant to answer, at least in part, Republican plans coming out of the House. 'A Better Way,' the name of the Republican proposals announced by Speaker Paul D. Ryan, will vie with 'We the People,' the title of the Democrats' plan." The New York Times: http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=bbaeadabb852783dec08cbc8272b6e468474cf73669f8d61abd1e90bcb62f0c7 ZIKA CONFERENCE GETS TO WORK - Morning Consult: "The Senate voted Wednesday evening to go to conference with the House to finalize a federal response to the Zika virus. The conference committee is expected to start formal negotiations immediately. Republicans have been negotiating with Senate Democrats about going to conference on Zika as well as conducting pre-conference negotiations with House members, according to aides." http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=bbaeadabb852783d39124d7303b80c7b99eb3d06b8ccca4fc6971a5c1a92e86b CLAMP DOWN ON SPENDING BILLS -- Speaker Ryan is looking to tighten up the appropriations process after a LGBT amendment caused chaos on the House floor and sunk the energy and water bill last month. If you're in the Capitol, don't forget to wander over to the Ohio Clock Corridor around 2 p.m. for the official Senate photo. Don't own any seersucker? Don't worry. A life-size seersucker suit cardboard cutout will be floating around the Hill today for pictures, starting in the Hart lobby at 8:30 a.m. And check #SeersuckerSelfie on Twitter to follow along. There's also a Snapchat filter if you're in and around the Capitol complex. And, if that wasn't enough, it's also magic day on Capitol Hill. Rep. Pete Sessions will be joined by David Copperfield this evening for a summit on-you guessed it-magic! The event kicks off at 5:30 in the congressional auditorium in the Capitol Visitors Center. Your Huddle host has learned that Copperfield was in Sessions' office Wednesday doing a practice run but has been instructed not to saw the congressman in half as part of his act. BEST DRESSED FOR THE BUNDI - Members from both sides of the aisle were clearly excited to receive Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday but none more so than Texas Republican Rep. Pete Olson. He even dressed the part, sporting an Indian bundi jacket similar to what Modi often wears, which one designer once described to GQ as the "most versatile piece of Indian clothing." Also in the audience for Modi's speech? Former Rep. Aaron Schock, who resigned last year amid questions about improper campaign spending. http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=bbaeadabb852783d09d4a94b98ab31cc24f723ff4f46da5d7a960cc7d5062d20 ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES -- Nicole Daigle joins the Senate Energy and Resources Committee as its majority staff communications director after more than a dozen years working in the energy industry. Allie Ryan is now working in congressional and public affairs at USDA. She previously worked for Rep. Tom Emmer and Sens. Chuck Grassley and John Thune. GRAB SOME TISSUES, THIS IS SWEET: Ever wonder what it's like to be a lobbyist on Capitol Hill? What about a four-legged lobbyist? Then meet Kaya, a German shepherd who, along with her owner Cole, lobbies members about helping veterans with PTSD link up with service dogs. IJReview slapped a GoPro on Kaya as she roamed the halls of the Capitol recently. Video and sweet story here: http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=bbaeadabb852783dbc774c0c6fb8bff3b275ac72ffa8743aeb05f45db5d43256 WEDNESDAY'S TRIVIA WINNER - Chris Armstrong correctly guessed that Hattie Caraway was the first Democratic woman to be elected to the Senate in 1932. TODAY'S TRIVIA - Chris brings us today's question: The Great Triumvirate - Henry Clay, Daniel Webster, and John C. Calhoun - all served as secretaries of state, senators, and congressmen. What Senate committee did all three chair? The first person to correctly answer will get a mention in tomorrow's Huddle. Visa's global fraud rate is less than 6 cents for every $100 transacted - which is about one-third the fraud rate experienced in the 1990s. And, we're continuing to reduce fraud with advances like chip technology, encryption, fraud analytics and tokenization. Chip protects in-store payments by generating a unique, one-time code needed for the transaction to be approved, while tokenization, replaces a card number with a digital account number so your personal information is never shared with merchants. Visa's fraud protection is designed to give consumers and merchants the confidence that Visa is the best way to pay and be paid, whether in store, online, or on a mobile device.
