> In a meeting yesterday at the Ministry of Justice, the officials discussed anticorruption strategy, magistrates’ accountability and the functioning of the judicial system, according to a ministry press release. U.S. officials emphasized the importance of a balance between independence of magistrates and immunity and the need for zero tolerance of corruption. They also emphasized that in all cases state institutions should immediately act to dissuade everyone - be they magistrates, politicians or businessmen - from committing acts of corruption. They agreed on continuing the good collaboration on judicial reform, including exchanging practices and experience. Minister Predoiu talked about the need for a new mentality in the judicial system.
