"Don't reach out and take that problem back. You've given it to God and there's nothing you can do about it." So I forget about the drink. One of the most important parts of the A.A. program is to give our drink problem to God honestly and fully and never to reach out and take the problem back to ourselves. If we let God have it and keep it for good and then cooperate with Him, we'll stay sober. Have I determined not to take the drink problem back to myself? > > Meditation for the Day > Constant effort is necessary if I am to grow spiritually and develop my spiritual life. I must keep the spiritual rules persistently, perseveringly, lovingly, patiently, and hopefully. By keeping them, every mountain of difficulty shall be laid low, the rough places of poverty of spirit shall be made smooth, and all who know me shall know that God is the Lord of all my ways. To get close to the spirit of God is to find life and healing and strength. > > Prayer for the Day > I pray that God's spirit may be everything to my soul. I pray that God's spirit may grow within me. > Source: Twenty-Four Hours a Day, Richmond Walker, Copyright © 1975, Hazeldon Foundation, printed in the USA. Editor’s note: This book was compiled by Richmond Walker (1892–1965) of the Group at Daytona Beach, Florida. I get the text from the following website: http://www.anonymityone.com/h24/0403EN.htm Note 4 numbers after “h24/”: the first two are the day of the month and the second two are the month. Example: To get daily reading for December 21st, you would change the URL to http://www.anonymityone.com/h24/2112EN.htm > _______________________ > > A cloistered nun describes her life, Pittsford, New York > “You don’t come unless you feel you are called. If you come, you feel that you can give yourself to this life. There are no days off. We’ve never had to buy our own food–people leave food for us in the waiting room in the house. We used to spend more time making crafts and other things to market, but now that most of our sisters are older, we spend most of our time caring for them. We don’t see movies, watch television, or read magazines and newspapers, and we don’t read fiction. We assign one sister to deal with the outside community and to read the newspaper to get the weather and to see if there is anything we should pray for. The life we lead helps us keep close to God. If you live in this community, pray, and keep Him in mind, you will come to find that you are in God’s presence at all times. Living in God’s presence is the most blessed feeling on earth.” > > From: Real Simple Magazine, some past issue, page 108 > _____________________________ > As Stan B. would often quote: > > “In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Jesus Christ.” > 1 Thes 5:1
