Hey guys, Wanted to brief you on a conversation I had with Laird Bunch today, in follow up to a talk he had with Hunter recently. There’s a group called No Greater Sacrifice, which started in 2008, to help fill a hole the 9/11 GI bill left. The bill gave expanded benefits to kids of fallen vets, and they began giving scholarships to the kids of wounded vets. They’ve since expanded to fallen vets. Website is here: http://www.nogreatersacrifice.org/ They have agreed to create a four year, full ride, scholarship in B’s name. I’ve not confirmed this is an on-going scholarship or a one off one. Regardless, they’re not looking for fundraising help, just permission to use his name. They’re having a charity golf outing on July 25, at Merion, which is the Monday of the Dem. Convention in Philly. They’d like to have the kid who gets the scholarship there, and have asked if the VP or you guys could be there in some capacity. A few things: 1. There are plenty of scholarships out there with B’s name on them. 2. The mission of this organization is pretty cool, and definitely seems to me to be something worthy of associating Beau with 3. The likelihood of getting the VP to attend an event during the convention is pretty low - even our idea of having a policy panel sponsored by the foundation was received cooly by OVP. 4. There are plenty of scholarships out there with B’s name on them (again). This is really your call - I think it’s a cool idea, and am not against it. But, it’s your call. I’m happy to run as much interference as I need to. Laird isn’t on the board of No Greater Sacrifice, he’s just friends with some of the leadership. Ultimately this isn’t the fly by night home for Vets in Port Penn, but it’s also not Penn, Syracuse or Stuart’s thing. Let me know how you’d like me to proceed. /ja Joshua Alcorn 302/295.8340 (office) 302/598.1885 (cell) josh@beaubidenfoundation.org
