Robert,

Today is a very special kind of day. It's Memorial Day, and while for many this weekend has been about the unofficial start of summer, it's important to remember why we mark such a holiday.

It's a somber day – a time to remember those that gave the ultimate sacrifice so that we can enjoy the freedoms we all hold so dear. From the greatest generation to those currently serving overseas, every generation of servicemen and women have bravely stood up on our behalf.

I'm incredibly proud to be the daughter of a Veteran. I know that on this day, if he were still with us, my dad would want us to take a time-out from the politics and campaign to remember those who were lost in the line of duty. And to reflect on what unites all of us: wanting to give our kids more opportunity than we had.

Thanks for always being by my side,
Susie
