The group also urged alumni to demonstrate their support for Dowling College by donating funds through thewww.SavingDowlingCollege.com website to help the school close its funding gap. “We recognize that last week’s sudden announcement of the intended closure of Dowling College sent current students and incoming freshman scurrying for options on where to continue or start their education,” said Frank Corso, Jr., President of the Alumni Association of Dowling College. “As the administration and the alumni association pull out all the stops to save the college, we’re asking students to give us a little extra time to allow our efforts to bear fruit before final transfer decisions are made.” Sherry Manansingh of Farmingdale, NY is a full time doctoral student at Dowling College pursuing a degree in education administration and was scheduled to begin her final year in September. She was working as the assistant dean of nursing at the St. Paul School of Nursing when the president of the nursing school, who is a Dowling College graduate, recommended she consider Dowling for her Ed.D. “I chose Dowling because it came highly recommended as a quality school whose faculty was very one-on-one with the students and very dedicated,” said Manansingh. “When I went to the college, that’s exactly what I found. Faculty were amazing with how they worked with me and my fellow students. It would break my heart to have to go to another college. My professors are the people I started with and the ones I want to complete my program with. I don’t want to have to go to another facility.” Corso said maintaining current student body levels and then growing the student body will be critical to efforts to save the college and ensure a brighter future for the institution. Corso also urged alumni to “step up and make a financial contribution to provide needed funds and demonstrate that the alumni association is a resource that can be counted on to help put Dowling College on a better path.” Corso and a group of dedicated alumni have been working continuously since last week to help save the college and have been working closely with college officials who are now seeking to reverse the closure they announced last week. “I appreciate the college president’s continued collaboration with the Alumni Association,” said Corso. “We are all working hard to find a solution and I’m hopeful that our efforts will bear fruit so that current and incoming Dowling College students can realize their dreams of becoming Dowling College graduates.” END NOTE TO EDITORS: Several current Dowling College students are available for interviews.
