Hello board - A few updates for you. 1. Fundraising: This week we received a $7,500 grant from the Anthony and Catherine Fusco Foundation for our Stewards of Children program. We also received a $2,500 grant from WSFS Bank to allow us to train their employees in Stewards. The WSFS grant will go to online trainings, and the Fusco grant will be primarily in person trainings. The email we sent asking for our grassroots network to help fund Stewards trainings for 400 people did incredibly well. We raised over $10,000. Two donations came in for $2,800, the full amount we asked for. Really, really exciting to see how engaged our email list is. 2. Programming: We solidified a relationship with the YMCA’s of DE to provide our NetSmartz trainings for their campers. They have 7 locations around the state, and most camps run in 1 week sessions, serving about 2k per week. A few of the camp directors want us to come in a few times, so I suspect we’ll speak to over 5k kids this summer, just through the Y. We also announced our Safe To Compete program on Saturday in at the Greater Milford Boys & Girls Club. Here’s a great clip about it: http://www.wboc.com/clip/12488734/biden-foundation-launches-child-protection-pilot-program Finally, we have the Delaware National Guard signed up to participate in our Stewards training. They have 2700 members in the state, and I suspect we’ll get to most of them before the year is done. 3. Other Projects: We’re tracking three bills in the DE State House this session, which ends June 30. One would weaken our Mandatory Reporting Law (boo), one would create an Erin’s Law in DE (http://erinslaw.org/ <http://erinslaw.org/>) which we’re hoping to mandate Stewards training for all teachers, one would strip teachers of their license should they “retire” or “resign” when threatened with sexual assault charges (basically). I’ll report back after June 30 with a recap of how we did. Patty was on a panel in Harrisburg last month discussing the statute of limitations for bringing civil actions against abusers. One of the panelists was the guy who took the Boston Diocese sexual abuse story to the Spotlight team at the Globe. We’re working with a local movie theater owner to have a FREE showing of the Best Picture winning “Spotlight” this summer, and include a panel of speakers after the showing. Should be great! I’ll let you know when we get this locked in. 4. Next Board Meeting: At our last meeting, we discussed having our next board meeting around the Blue Dream Gala in the Hamptons on August 27. I hope as many of you can come to the gala as possible (will circulate the invitation once it’s finalized this week), but I understand summer schedules are busy and the Hamptons isn’t any easy place to get to for some of you. However, I would like to stick to our plan to have a meeting in New York City around this weekend. Would folks be available on THURSDAY, AUGUST 25 or MONDAY AUGUST 29 for our second board meeting, to be held in New York City? Please let me know your preference by replying directly to me. If you cannot attend in person, we can accommodate folks on the phone - but it would be great to have as many of you in person as possible. Thank you! Talk soon. /ja Joshua Alcorn 302/295.8340 (office) 302/598.1885 (cell) josh@beaubidenfoundation.org
