Marshall Rick and all,
There are birthday parties and then there are birthday parties. From the weekend that Tim and David and I recently had with George, I can report that he has several interests:
- Being in South Dakota to fly on an Air Force plane for his birthday
- Enjoying a social gathering with friends
- Using the birthday (not just one party) to raise funds to support his interests in school feeding policies. Note that this goes beyond actual provision of food and/or raising money for McGovern Dole type activities, but in setting up a system to impact policy in countries which still need to change procedures/laws so that the country can provide food at schools.
I say all this to say that perhaps options should be proposed to George about what way to go, as, if WFP/USA were to host something, rather than some individuals, he might want to negotiate with the organization about his latest interests. Before anyone does talk to him, perhaps they should touch base with David Lambert and/or Tim Lavelle to get more of a flavor of our long discussions with George about his thoughts. Thanks. CB

Rick, I agree that WFP-US should take the lead in hosting a 90th Birthday Party for our George. His birthday in July 19th. I know he has a few goals, so let’s pin down whether it makes more sense to do something on a Thursday, Friday or Sat. that week, and how it should be structured. Thanks very much. Should be fun for all. Best to you family. Marsh
