99,000 people die of healthcare acquired infections each year. That translates into 271 people per day or a Boeing 767 airliner crashing and killing all on board every day. MRSA -- Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus -- alone is estimated to kill around 19,000 people annually in the United States. When First Coast TV News Reporter Erin Hawley learned about health care acquired infections and the dangers of MRSA, she investigated innovations to address the problem. She needed only to look at a hospital in her own back yard. Erin learned that Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville is trying a creative approach to protecting healthcare workers and their patients from sprays and splatters of blood and bodily fluids using "Active Barrier Protective Uniforms."
