Wednesday - June 6, 2012 From the School Message from Lee Many thanks to all of you who have worked so hard to support the Upper School community this year. We depend on parent volunteers in so many ways and appreciate their time, energy, and dedication. Yearbooks will be distributed after 12:00 noon on Thursday. Students will be required to clean out their lockers before they pick up their yearbooks. Grades will be posted online on Tuesday, June 19. Students who have missing library books, athletic uniforms or any other outstanding obligations will not have grade reports posted. Please check with Jane Lenherr at lenherrj@sidwell.edu if you cannot see your child’s report card. Student schedules will be posted online at the end of July and you will be notified in advance of the exact date of posting. Upper School offices will be closed from Monday, July 30 to Friday, August 10 and all questions and/or concerns will be addressed when the offices reopen on August 13. In an emergency, please contact the school’s main number at 202-537-8100. It has been an exciting year and I wish everyone a restful and refreshing summer. As always, please let me know if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions at any time, and I look forward to a great school year 2012/2013! Peace, Lee Updates to Contact and Household Information Please remember to submit changes to your household and employment information (address, emails, or phone numbers) as they occur including during the summer months. Log into the parent portal and click "Update Household Information" or use this link: Update Household Information. The School wants to ensure that our database contains the most up-to-date contact information. Changes are automatically updated in the online directory, which is accessed through the parent portal. Updates must be received by August 15th for inclusion in the 2012-2013 print directory. If all your household information is currently up-to-date, no action is required on your part. Next-to-New Sale Be among the 100+ volunteers that it takes to run the SFS Next-to-New Sale, the School’s hugely popular sale of quality used items. The Next-to-New Sale is an event that touches the lives of those both inside and outside the Sidwell community. It brings people together, offers great bargains, benefits outside organizations, and raises money for financial aid. The sale will run October 18-20 with collection and sorting beginning in September. Show your interest by signing up now (http://www.signupgenius.com/go/805094DA8A6292-sfsnext) and one of the leaders of the sale will contact you at the beginning of the school year with more information. Signing up does not commit you to anything; it just gets you on the list to hear more detailed information in September. We need your help and the more people involved the more fun it is! It's a great way to meet other parents in the school and to give back. Donate: We will begin accepting donations the first week of school and hope you will save your items. If you are moving this summer and need to donate items before September, please contact the Events for Student Scholarships office at 202-537-8110 or by e-mail at events@sidwell.edu. We are also looking for moving boxes. PA Announcements From the US Parents Association Clerks Parents: We would like to express our deepest thanks to the many dedicated Grade Reps., Committee and Special Event Clerks and all of our PA volunteers who have given so much of themselves this year to make the Upper School a welcoming place for our students and families. We would also like to express our sincere thanks to all of the wonderful parents and families who have volunteered their time and energy to enrich our community this year. We greatly appreciate all that you have done to welcome new families, participate in community service projects, host family pot-luck dinners, support school fundraisers, honor our teachers and staff, help with student activities and social events, attend our meetings and contribute to our community in so many ways. We have enjoyed working with you and getting to know you. Best wishes for a wonderful and safe summer. Althea & Barbara Reminder for Students: Please join us for the Upper School Year End Student Party on Monday, June 11th from 2-4pm in the Arts Center Courtyard.
